This summer’s workshop will be based on the work of German Architect Frei Otto and his inspirational tensile and fabric structures. Tensile structures can include everything from kites to tents to suspension bridges – anything constructed of elements using tension forces for structural purposes.
Students will explore tensile structure, learn about the organizing principles of design, and use their imaginations as they experiment with tensile design through drawing and model making.
This year we welcome Steve Smithers from the Thousand Islands High School Technology and Engineering program, who will teach alongside designer/builder Steve Taylor, and architect Jonathan Taylor. Each of these professionals will bring a fresh and different perspective to the workshop as they share their knowledge of the design field.
Parents, family, and friends will be invited to a final presentation as the students present their portfolios.
