Sample – Window blind or placemat. Warp is split bamboo and wheat straw along with jute and olive cotton. Weft stripes/bands of color are widely spaced to let warp show. Weft stripes are black, olive, jute, blue and cream. Alice Mattil made several samples (see related objects) of placemats and window blinds. A note with the objects reads, I did many placemats and window blinds for family and friends. I experimented for weavings using natural Kansas materials.
