Woven Rug/Tapestry – pink and multicolor wool rug with large birds and human figures. Woven by children in Harraniya, outside Cairo, Egypt. Tapestry rug depicts five large birds in dense grass, a child rides the back of the center bird. Background hues are pale blue, pale chartreuse, and deep brown. Tapestry has wool weft on linen warp. Old exhibit label with rug says small tapestry beaters tightly pushed each segment of weave ito the intended spot. The hanging has not been steamed to lay flat, a possible indication of the fact that it is an older piece as more recently woven pieces from El Harraniyeh appear flat.
