Antique white linen hand towel. Embroidered initial H in satin stitch. Multishaft twill design (see Jacob Angstadt books for reference). Hemmed with decorative hemstitching. Ruth’s comment: It is quite stiff but it is not obvious as to whether it is the natural unused-linen stiffness or from startch; however, the antique shop in western New York State, where it was purchased, did startch their antique linens for display. It has not been washed since acquiring it.
