TIAC Announces Spring After School Arts Program
CLAYTON, NY (February 1, 2023) – The Thousand Islands Arts Center ~ Home of the Handweaving Museum (TIAC) is excited to announce several new curriculums and collaborations for its After School Arts program starting on Tuesday, February 28, and running through Thursday, April 27.
After School Arts (ASA) is an eight-week art and craft educational program that TIAC offers for children ages 5 – 12. The spring session begins on February 28 and ends on April 27, with classes being offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 5pm. Regular ASA classes will not be held during the public school April spring break. TIAC will instead offer a special Knitting for Beginners on April 10 and 11, from 10am – noon – a great way for a parents and/or grandparents and their little ones to have fun together while learning a new hobby!
Marcia Rogers, TIAC Education and Membership Coordinator, said: “We’re excited to collaborate with our friends at Save the River, TILT, and the ABM, and teach these eager kids how art and craft are intertwined with their River environment. Projects include collages, fish printing (Gyotaku), paper and yarn crafts, oil pastels, spring flowers with terra cotta pots and pipe cleaners, among other fun activities.”
This session of ASA will include instruction by Nicky Badour, Thousand Islands High School art teacher; Stephanie Martin, Thousand Islands Middle School art teacher; Shannon Walter, Thousand Islands Land Trust education and outreach coordinator; Robin Hall, Save the River education coordinator; Molly Voth, Antique Boat Museum museum educator; and Robin Hoffman, SUNY ESF professor emerita and TILT Board secretary.
