TIAC Awarded $30,000 by the New York State Council on the Arts
Clayton, NY (February 1, 2023) – The Thousand Islands Arts Center ~ Home of the Handweaving Museum (TIAC) recently announced a grant award totaling $30,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Following New York State’s historic investment for the arts, NYSCA has awarded $90 million since spring 2022 to a record number of artists and organizations across the state.
Leslie Rowland, TIAC Executive Director, said, “We are extremely grateful to NYSCA for their recognition of the challenges museums and art organizations such as TIAC still face caused by the pandemic. While there was improvement in 2021, there were lingering effects on our operations last year. This award will help TIAC to continue its recovery from COVID-19.”
Governor Kathy Hochul said, “As a cultural capital of the world, New York State is strengthened by our expansive coverage of the arts across all 62 counties. This year’s historic commitment to the arts sector will spur our continuing recovery from the pandemic and set the course for a stronger future. This unprecedented funding continues our investment into the vital role that the arts contribute to the health of the economy, our communities and our citizens. As we continue our comeback, we applaud the strength and innovation of arts organizations across the state and are all the better for their hard work and dedication.”
