Thousand Islands Arts Center Announces Major Campus Expansion
CLAYTON, NY – The Thousand Islands Arts Center ~ Home of the Handweaving Museum (the
Arts Center) is thrilled to announce that earlier this year, they were the recipient of a generous
and surprising donation of the property located at 313 James Street. This property adjoins the
site of our new building at 321 James Street and was the former home of ‘River Magic. It was
purchased and then gifted to the Arts Center by longtime supporters Mary and Ted Mascott, as
part of its ongoing campus expansion. In the immediate future, this wonderful gift
will allow for our beloved Finders Keepers to reopen with even more space for vintage
treasures and finds.
Finders Keepers is an upscale secondhand gift shop selling a little bit of everything. It’s staffed
by volunteers, with all merchandise being donated. One hundred percent of the sales support
the mission of the Arts Center. Anyone looking to volunteer or donate is welcome and
encouraged to stop by and inquire about details. It’s an experience embraced by the
community!
Opening day is Wednesday, May 21. Store hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am
to 4 pm, and it will remain open through the Columbus Day weekend.
In the coming years, the site promises to become a vibrant public art park that will establish an
inviting entrance for our new facility at 321 James Street. This extraordinary gift will
significantly enhance the long-term aesthetics of the Arts Center campus and further contribute
to the welcoming atmosphere of downtown Clayton.
For over 50 years, the Arts Center has enriched our community, showcasing artists, housing a
world-renowned handweaving collection, and offering a variety of educational programs. Now,
to meet growing demand, we're expanding! Our new facility on James Street will create a
cultural hub with expanded exhibition space, enhanced educational opportunities for all ages,
and a permanent home for our celebrated collection of the Handweaving Museum. Join us as
we establish the Arts Center as a regional destination and ensure the arts thrive for generations
to come. Visit TIArtsCenter.org for more information.
